What Does Inspiration Have to Do With It? πŸ’‘

There are a few great lies that we have all been told, and told again, and again, and again.

You are born talented.

Art is fueled by passionate inspiration.

That actor came out of nowhere.

They're a natural.

This picture that gets painted of success, work, and growth reduces the immeasurable effort and hours put into developing everything to get to that point. Are some people more gifted in certain areas than others? Sure. But does that beat out effort and perseverance?

The worst thing that you could ever tell yourself is that you aren't working on that thing you say you love because you aren't feeling inspired.

Sometimes inspiration comes from the process itself. Putting yourself in the mindset of the doing, and then your mind slowly wades into the deep waters of involvement and then you make those connections and epiphanies in the middle of your time.

As the great Henri Matisse famously quoted:

Don’t wait for inspiration. It comes while one is working.
