Entry two in the series is highlighting someone you will inevitably learn about if you decide to take the (delusional) Screenwriting Course - the Academy Award winning writer of Little Miss Sunshine, Toy Story 3, and others.

Michael is not only an immensely talented screenwriter, but he’s provided some of the best, most concise resources for learning about storytelling, and screenwriting specifically, AND he uses examples from his own films and other popular ones.

I’m not kidding - his YouTube channel is really more valuable than most college screenwriting classes are.

I must stress that his insight is most valuable if you’re already experienced with screenwriting elements, as knowing what NOT to do is gained through experience and mistake. That being said, even if you’re brand new to screenwriting, the videos are accessible and understandable and can help you appreciate film in a whole different light.

I found his story map and his method of explanation so valuable, that I went out and built a easy to reference document to help review and explore at later points what concepts really hit home in this overview.

Check out the Story Map here.

Do yourself a favor and go to his YouTube channel and watch as much as you can, and rewatch when you can too!
